Retail Expansion - Primark, Trading as Penney’s in Ireland, has submitted plans for a new distribution centre with an estimated capital spend of €118m on the base build, and a further €75m on the fitout and purchase of semi-automated equipment. The proposed development will be based in Kildare, and expects to deliver up to 482 full time/Part time jobs upon completion. This further adds to Penney’s investment in Ireland, with a new store in Tallaght announced to be open next year in line with its global expansion strategy.

Year on Year Growth - The Irish Headquartered International Project Delivery and Engineering company – PM Group has announced the creation of an additional 400 New jobs, adding to the 3200 people they already employ globally, having achieved operating profits of €34.8 Million in 2020, an increase of 30% on 2019 figure. The surge in investment by their clients has carried through to 2021, with international projects across “Therapeutics and vaccine manufacturing, food and beverage processing, medical devices and diagnostics as well as data centres now accounting for more than 50% of the Groups activity for the first time in their history.

Increased Chip Capacity – The global chief executive of Intel announced the Ireland has made the shortlist for a  further multi-billion dollar investment, as the companies aims to invest €80 Billion across Europe over the next 2 decades. The selected site will be finalised later this year.  Galway has been listed as a potential site location, and if successfully selected, a total of 10,000 jobs could be created, as well supporting the creation of an additional 90,000 jobs. 

Limerick Legato – Legato Health technologies – a company which is responsible for building and iterating applications and AI solutions to make healthcare simple, has announced plan to hire 60 People over the next 6 months across data scientist and AI engineers, as it opens an R&D hub in the city. 

$2 Billion Acquisition – Vertiv – a global leader in designing, building and servicing critical infrastructure that enables vital applications for data centers has acquired the Irish company E&I engineering for the sum of almost $2 Billion(€1.68bn). The acquisition of E&I represents a key milestone in Vertiv’s strategy, completing our portfolio of in-building power train offerings for data centres and vital commercial and industrial markets,” said Rob Johnson, Vertiv’s CEO.

Refocusing attention – BAM, one of the worlds largest construction companies has decided to sell its German business, and redirect its focus on its core business in Ireland,UK and the Netherlands. The operations were noted to being sold for €500 million to German Construction and Real Estate company, Zech Group.

Biotech Expansion Cork – Jannsen Sciences Ireland has submitted planning for a €150 Million expansion of its Cork plant, that could create 150 Jobs. The pharmaceutical firm is seeking to expand its biomedicines facility in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork, by around 2,500sqm. The facility has been in operation in Cork since 2005 and makes treatments for manufacturing products to treat conditions that include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and cancer.

New Engineering Consultancy  - WILL Rudd Davidson is to expand operations into Ireland with a new office in Dublin. The engineering consultancy employs over 80 staff in Scotland aim to recruit up 8 staff in Ireland, across their office in Dublin and 2 satellite offices in Limerick& Leitrim. They aim to cover projects throughout the whole country and will provide full civil, structural and conservation engineering and project management services across a wide range of sectors – Data centres, Hotel, residential, commercial and Energy.

New Sustainable Build – The construction of Logitech’s Gold LEED certified HQ by JCD building has begun in Cork. Logitech manufacture cloud Peripheal products and are currently employ 200 people in Cork, with an additional 50 jobs already announced. The new building, City Gate Plaza Two, will be capable of hosting about 400 employees and utilising the latest glazing and BMS technologies, we are able to deliver a true workplace of the future. Said John Cleary, CEO of JCD Group.  

Fulfilment Center - Amazon has announced plans to open its first fulfilment centre in the Republic of Ireland, bringing 500 new jobs across in engineering, HR, IT, health & safety, finance and operations management. The centre in Baldonnell Business Park will open in spring 2022, providing faster delivery times for customers around the country seven days a week, and one-day delivery for hundreds of thousands of items.
