Medical Device Expansion Louth - Medical technology company BD is creating 100 jobs at its Drogheda site, following a €62 million investment. About half the positions have already been filled, with remaining jobs expected to be filled by 2023. Among the roles on offer are engineering, production, machine operations, logistics, management and administration.The Drogheda operation currently employs around 240 staff. The news came as the company officially opened its new 30,000 sq ft production facility.
€140 Million Solar Investment - Power Capital Renewable Energy (PCRE) backed by French investor Omnes Capital, has acquired six ready-to-build solar farms from RES. The company said it will invest €140m into the construction of these projects over the next three years, with solar farms planned in counties Galway, Waterford, Clare and Kildare.The farms have a combined capacity in excess of 240 MW and brings PCRE's total portfolio of solar farms to over 1.1GW.
New Saggart Reservoir - The project involves the construction of a new, covered, treated storage reservoir and associated pipelines, which will have the capacity to store 100 million litres of treated drinking water, the equivalent of 40 Olympic sized swimming pools, supplied from Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant, the largest water treatment plant in the country. It will also include a new electro chlorination plant and associated infrastructure as well as the construction of approximately 680 metres of the new Slade Valley trail which will run along the boundary of Irish Water’s site. The project is being delivered on behalf of Irish Water by Coffey Construction Ireland Ltd. and is expected to be completed within 3 years.
58 MW PPA for Solar - Neoen has signed power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bord Gais Energy on three solar farms in Ireland that will provide electricity to the national grid in 2022.Under an agreement running until 31 December 2037, Bord Gais Energy will be the sole off taker of the electricity produced from facilities in Hortland, County Kildare, Hilltown in County Meath and Millvale in County Wicklow. The three solar farms are already under construction and will have a capacity of 58MW. Neoen is one of the world’s leading and fastest growing independent producers of exclusively renewable energy with over 4.8GW of solar, wind and storage capacity in operation or under construction worldwide.
New Ring Road for Galway - An Bord Pleanála has given the green light to the controversial 18km Galway City ring road, over three years after receiving the application. Around 500 landowners are affected by the proposed ring road running from the west of the city near Barna to the existing M6 motorway. The cost of the project is currently estimated at €600m, including property and construction costs.The plan for the ring road involves the demolition of 44 houses. It is expected the main construction phase could take three years, on top of the 18 to 24 months expected for the detailed design and tendering phase.
Sustainable Drainage - A sustainable and recyclable kerb and drainage system will be installed on a 20.3km stretch of dual carriageway between Turlough and Westport in Ireland.BAM Wills JV has begun installation of the Duradrain innovation as part of the €241M N5 upgrade project. It forms part of the biggest single infrastructural investment ever undertaken in the county. Duradrain was chosen primarily as a low carbon kerb and drainage solution, recording a carbon footprint of just 1.71kg of carbon dioxide per kg in its recent Life Cycle Assessments.
€200 Million Wind Farm Project - IRISH firm Mercury Renewables is planning to build a €200m wind farm and hydrogen extraction plant in Co Mayo as part of an effort to make the county a hub for Ireland’s renewable energy sector. The project, known as Firlough, is located on the Mayo-Sligo border near Bonniconlon and will include a 75MW wind farm. The wind farm project has been in development since 2009. Mercury Renewables already has planning permission for 21 wind turbines at the Firlough site. However, due to the potential for green hydrogen production in the region, it has now been decided to seek planning for a hydrogen production plant and 13 wind turbines.
