€118m distribution centre – Planning permission has been approved for a new €118 million distribution center for leading clothing retailer Penneys in Kildare. The spend for the project will be €43 million on the base build and an additional €75 million is to be spent by the retailer on the internal fit-out and equipment for the semi-automated centre. The all-island Penneys distribution centre at Great Connell, Newbridge, will employ 212 people when operational.

Water and Wastewater Partnerships – Headworks and Glan Agua have announced a strategic partnership to offer wastewater treatment and construction services  to the municipal and industrial markets of Ireland, with the aim of winning and implementing wastewater treatment projects in Ireland by merging both parties' relevant technological and construction capabilities. Headworks International, is a global provider of biofilm technologies for wastewater reuse and treatment and Glan Agua is a leader in the design, building and operation of water and wastewater solutions for municipal and industrial infrastructures in Ireland and the UK.

Pharma Expansion Limerick – Edwards lifescience a Pharmaceutical and Medical device company who currently employ 600 people in Limerick have announced the creation of an additional 250 jobs as the company opens its state-of-the-art operations centre which will manufacture transcatheter therapies to repair or replace damaged heart valves.

Retail Expansion - Lidl has announced it will invest €11 million in building a new store in Clonshaugh creating 35 new permanent jobs with the retailer as well as 80 more local construction jobs through the development phase. Construction is scheduled to begin on site early next year with a mid-summer opening.

Jobs Boost for Galway - Galway-based manufacturing and testing company Éirecomposites will create 40 new jobs after signing a multi-million euro deal with Spirit AeroSystems, one of the world's largest tier-one aerostructure manufacturers and suppliers. Éirecomposites will provide structural components for commercial airliners and business jets. The contract will enable the creation of 40 new jobs over the next three years, while also securing 60 existing positions in their facility in Connemara. 

Energy Storage - A planned €650m hydro-electric station proposed for Silvermines is to go to planning in the first quarter of 2022. Silvermines Hydro, which is located just outside Silvermines village in north Tipperary, if Approved will generate electricity from a storage-based technology. The project has the capacity to generate electricity to power 200,000 homes.

 School Developments PPP  - Bam Ireland has been awarded the design and build contract for four new national schools in Dublin and Cork as part of a Department of Education’s Design and Build Framework Schools Bundle in a joint venture with Glasgiven Contracts. The four new projects are located at Ballinteer, Cherrywood and Knocklyon in Co. Dublin, while the fourth is at Carrs Hill, Douglas, Co. Cork, and will be completed in 2022, and have capacity for up to 2000 students. 

New Metrology technology - The WiSAR Technology Gateway, at LYIT, has unveiled a new €170,000 state of the art, 8-axis portable CMM (coordinate measuring machine) arm, equipped with an ultra-high precision scanner and related software, following a successful submission to last year’s Enterprise Ireland, Capital Equipment Fund.

Start Up Funding - Mullingar Based Med Device company Ostoform has raised €3 Million in its most recent funding round by Capital investor, BGF,. This brings total raised to sate to €6 million euro, and its hope the investment will drive international growth and distribution of its products.  Ostoform's key product currently is the Ostoform Seal used by ostomy patients. The Ostoform Seal has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of skin complications, positively impacting patient quality of life.
