Security Systems Group Expanding - Convergint, a leading Security Systems business, plans to expand Irish workforce by a further 50 employees. Headquartered in the US, Convergint designs, installs and services electronic security, cybersecurity, fire and life safety, building automation and audiovisual systems. It has clients in sectors including finance, healthcare, government, education and data centres. The $1.7bn company expanded into Ireland in 2016 and acquired Dublin-based security systems company MTS Security in 2019.
Irish Robotics Firm Expanding in Cork - The Sligo company KAON Automation, has opened a new facility in Little Island in Cork to service local firms in the southern region, and plans to recruit engineers and technicians for both Sligo and Cork facilities. The company currently employs 45. As a result of the pandemic, the requirement for automation has been accelerated, According to the International Federation for Robotics, that automation has now been deployed 25 times faster than was expected pre-pandemic. In recent months, the number of robotic devices and machinery imported into the US increased by 26.3%.
New 130-bed Community Nursing Unit - Construction of a 130-bed Nursing unit in Killarney is expected to begin within 12 months. The project is one of seven to be delivered by a public-private partnership with HSE. The constructions is expected to begin in July next year and take 24 months to complete.
Energia Group plans 800,000 sq ft data center in Dublin - Huntstown Power Company, a subsidiary of Energia Group, plans to build two data centres next to its Power Station in Dublin, Ireland. The plan is to build the data centres on 13.3 hectares of land that are currently used for agricultural purposes. Hunstown Power Company says the facilities would be developed over a ten-year period.
South Irish Sea Offshore Wind Project - Irish provider Energia is holding the first Public Consultation on for a renewable energy project. The South Irish Sea project is proposed to be located at a minimum of 10km and up to 25km out the sea coasts of south Co. Wicklow and Co Wexford. The project team is currently undertaking offshore and onshore studies to help determine site suitability and to inform the Environmental Impact Assessment. If approved the project will generate clean electricity for the equivalent of over 500,000 Irish homes.
€7 Million Aldi Store in Mountbellew - Construction work has started on a new €7 million Aldi supermarket in Mountbellew. The development will bring up 30 new jobs to the area. The store is part of a larger development being built by Cahermorris Developments and includes a filling station and residential units.
Growth in Irish Building Activity - According to Ulster Bank’s construction purchasing managers’ index (PMI), the sector expanded for the sixth consecutive month in October. As a result, the index ticked up to a reading of 56.9 last month, up from 56.3 in September and well above the 50 threshold that signals an increase in activity. Commercial activity was particularly strong in October as the pace growth picked up markedly, as strong demand for construction services was evident in further gains for both new orders and employment. One area posing problems to the growth are supply chain issues, which are expected to remain a concern for the coming 12 months.
Construction Sector Hit Record Input Price Inflation - The Construction sector was hit with a record input price last month as severe supply chain disruption are leading to higher cost for building firms. According to (PMI) report, almost 80pc of the respondents indicated their input prices had increased over the month. The responses tally (CSO) for September, showed the average price of building and construction materials has increased 13p year-one-year. Overall the Construction (PMI) shows the total construction activity - rose to 56.9 in October from 56.3 in September. Readings above 50 signal an increase in growth.
