- Public Sector Project - Planning permission has been granted for a controversial 6000 seat event centre on the site of the former Beamish and Crawford Brewery in Cork City. The projects initial public investment of €16 million, has now raised to €50 million to ensure the facility is finally built. [1]
- Upskilling for Offshore Energy - The National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) in Ringaskiddy is planning to create new/Upgraded courses in line with the requirements for offshore energy sector such seamanship, smaller vessels, coastal trade and logistics. [2]
- Date Centers Dublin - Digital Netherlands VIII B. V has submitted planning permission applications for the removal of unused water treatment facility, and erection of a pair of two-Storey Data centers in Profile Park Clondalkin. Each planned Data Center will cover a total of circa 16,865Sqm, and will reach heights of 20m. As part of the planning application, a gas power energy generating compound is also proposed, as well as Emergency generators, emission flues and plant are proposed in compounds next to each of the data centre buildings [3]
- Date Centers Clare - Over 50 submissions have been received for a proposed €1.2 Billion Data centre in county Clare. Concerns have been raised over the environmental impact of the facility, as well as the demand on the energy grid at peak times, due to the amount of energy required to power the facility. If planning is approved, construction is expected to begin in June 2023, and the overall developments would take over 5 years to complete. [4]
- Renewable Energy - The construction of Ireland Largest Solar farm has begun in county Wicklow. The project is being undertaken by Statkraft, Europe's largest generator of renewable energy. The total project cost is €39 Million, excluding financing, and will generate 200MWp, which is enough energy to power circa 40,000 homes. [5]
- Acquisition and Expansion - Private Equity Investment firm Waterlands has Acquired a majority stake in Writech, a provider of Global Fire Protection Design, Manufacture, Installation, Commissioning & Servicing services. The company had sales of over €20 Million last year and is aiming for considerable growth in their turnover to €115 million in the next 3 years. The company plans to create 100 jobs over the next 2 years as part of their expansion plans across the EMEA region. The company are already in the process of constructing €1.2 million innovation and research centre, which will see them recruit 30 engineers in preparation for the expansion. [6]
- Power Generation - A planning application is expected for a Natural gas plant and 600MW gas powered station in Kerry, by Shannon LNG. Future developments are also planned for the site, with a proposed data centre campus that could accommodate up to 8 data centres Notices have been put up recently at the Ballylongfordsite announcing it will be applying for permission to build a €650 Million plant on 600-acre site. The project faces opposition from environmentalists raising concerns over the plant increasing Ireland increasing the use of Fossil fuel electricity. The terminal could supply up to 22.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, with the power plant operating 6 turbines across 3 halls. If constructed, over 70 long terms jobs would be created across the plant and power station, and over 400 long term jobs across the 8 data centres according to the project plans. [7][8]
- Mining A total of 190 jobs are set to be created with the planned re-opening of Galmoy zinc and lead mine in Co Kilkenny and Co Laois, as planning has been submitted to restart mining activities. The planning application states the reopening would take 1 year and create 100 jobs in construction, and 90 jobs when operational. It is anticipated that 310,000 tonnes of ore will be mined per annum while 210,000 tonnes of sorted ore per annum will be exported from the site. [9]
