Sustainable Retail - Lidl announced the opening of a €12 Million Store in Bray, one of the 6-stores promised to be opened by Lidl in 2021. The new facility will create 30 permanent positions, and an additional 100 jobs during its construction and development phase. The new facility will only use renewable energy as part of it 50001 ISO Certified energy management system, providing free EV charging points to customers and includes roof mounted solar panels.
Modular Expansion - A leading Irish modular construction company - ESS Modular announced it will create 70 new jobs in the UK with the opening of a Manchester office. ESS Modular uses off-site modular construction methods to speed up the completion of projects. This construction method also offers improvements on energy efficiency. The company has already delivered homes in the UK under the pan-London homelessness scheme, and the goal is to deliver 200 homes under this framework within the next two years.
Tipperary TV - Silver Rock Studios has submitted a plan for the development of a purpose-built film and television production studio in an old pharmaceutical plant in Nenagh, with investment of up to €30 million. The project if approved could create up to 250 jobs during construction and up to 300 full time staff when the studio is operational. The first phase of the project would be the development of 70,000 square feet of sound stages and over 90,000 square feet of workshops, production support and training facilities. The new studio will be a “nearly net-zero carbon energy building”.
Housing for All - The Irish government has launched Housing for All - a New Housing Plan for Ireland. The ambitious programme aims to allow every Irish citizen to be able to purchase or rent a home at an affordable price through an increased supply of social, affordable and private housing over the next decade. In order for this to be achieve this, the key objectives of the plan is to build 300,000 homes by 2030, 90,000 of which will be social homes to be delivered by the end of 2030. As part of the plan measures will also be implemented to reduce construction costs, as well as to reintroduce vacant properties back into the market. The plan will be supported by over €4 billion in guaranteed State funding every year.
GDP Rising - Economy set for ‘exceptional’ growth with GDP to rise by at least 15% largely due to Ireland large Multinational Sector, according to Davy.
UCD Spin Out Funding - BioSimulytics (www.biosimulytics.ai), a University College Dublin (UCD) spin-out company, announced that it has secured €595k in initial seed funding from a number of strategic angel investors and Enterprise Ireland. BioSimulytics has developed a novel software solution, using a powerful combination of AI, machine learning, computational chemistry, quantum physics and high-performance computing (HPC), to drive smarter, faster, and more cost-effective R&D processes in the design and development of new drugs within the Life Sciences industries. The software could drastically reduce parts of the development process from 6 months to a matter of weeks.
