Medical Device Expansion West of Ireland – VistaMed, a leading Medical device company founded in Ireland back in in 1999 has announced It will be looking to hire an additional 100 people to its current workforce of 525 people, due to increased demand for its products. The company produces a diverse range of catheter-based products used in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures such as cardiology, electrophysiology, peripheral stent delivery systems, urology, endoscopy, neurology and pain management.
€500M Urban Hub - Quintain, a US Backed developer has begun works on a large scale urban hub in Adamstown, Dublin. The development will include 279 apartments and more than 91,000sq ft/8,500sq m of space to house two major supermarkets, 20 retail units and five restaurant outlets, along with a multi-storey car park. The expected to be completed date for the construction of the apartment is by Mid 2023.
Aerospace Losses & Saves – Atlantic Aviation Group has agreed to acquire rival Aircraft Maintenance Lufthansa Technik’s Shannon business, which could save 300 of the 485 jobs located at the site. Lufthansa Technik Shannon entered review earlier in the year, after Covid had a large impact on the business. The deal makes Atlantic Aviation Group the biggest player in Irish aircraft maintenance space, employing about 740 people at its bases in Shannon and Brize Norton in England.
Cheesy Acquisitions – Irish Owned Ornua has acquired Whitehall Specialties in the US for an undisclosed sum, doubling its footprint in the US cheese ingredients market. Whitehall Specialties, which has its headquarters in Wisconsin, provides cheese ingredient products to customers in the food manufacturing, retail and food service sectors. It employs 450 people across four sites. This forms part of the Ornua aims to increase Kerrygold sales to €2 billion by 2025, with the US market seen as key location for achieving this target.
Rising Inflation - Construction inflation at over 8%, has doubled since the onset of the Covid pandemic and is running at Celtic Tiger rates, according to a recent survey published by the Irish chartered surveyors. The authoritative survey is more evidence that the fallout from the huge spike in energy costs and the strain on global supply chains amid the recovery from the Covid-19 economic crisis, that has led to shortages of all types of goods from building products to semiconductors, is pushing up prices across the board. The surveyors also predict no let-up in the price hikes into 2022.
Buffer Acquisition - Aceto, a leading global provider of speciality materials for life sciences and advanced technology end markets, announced the acquisition of Limerick based A&C Bio Buffer Ltd. A&C manufactures biological buffers — which are an organic substance that maintains a constant pH level — process and cleaning solutions, and water for injection at its Limerick, Ireland site. It’s the sixth acquisition Aceto has made in the past 2 years. The move comes just months after Aceto picked up A&C group, which A&C Bio Buffer was formerly a part of.
