Major Consultancy Acquisition - Linesight, which employs more than 900 people and has offices in 24 countries around the world, has been bought by US company Integrated Project Services (IPS). Linesight provides consultancy services on projects across a range of sectors, from data centres, healthcare, hotels and life sciences to retail and residential. Its clients have included the likes of Microsoft, Dell and IBM. The acquisition is being approached as a future integrated partnership where IPS will leverage Linesight’s experience and expertise, in particular in the data centre sector. Linesight in turn will leverage IPS’s expertise in the life sciences sector, it added.
New Entrant in European Data Centre Market - DAMAC Group (a Dubai-based conglomerat) has announced a partnership with Dataplex to develop data centre facilities in Europe. The partnership will focus predominantly on brownfield projects involving retrofitting existing structures and larger greenfield projects, with specific focus on hyperscale and wholesale colocation customers. Dataplex’s primary shareholders DAMAC Group and Chirisa have recently acquired a land parcel in Abbotstown,for a greenfield 70 MW+ data centre and industrial campus development in Dublin, Ireland.
Offshore Wind - Irish energy provider Energia has opened a public consultation on Its South Irish Sea offshore wind project which for grids some 10 to 25 kilometres off the coasts of county Wexford and south Wicklow. Energia’s South Irish Sea project would be located a minimum of 10km and up to 25km out to sea off the coasts of south Wicklow and Co. Wexford. It could generate electricity for the equivalent of over 500,000 Irish homes.
Green Analytics - Green Rebel, a company which offers data acquisition, analytics and consultancy services to support offshore renewable energy development, especially offshore wind, has announced the creation of 50 Job in cork due to its significant growth plans in the coming 12 months. The company currently employs 75 staff, and it said that number will grow to 125 in 2022. The new positions will include survey vessel crew, technicians and engineers, data scientists and surveyors, ecologists, aircraft mission specialists, project managers, office administrators, AI specialists, software developers and sales and marketing roles.
Health Robots – Akara, a startup spun out of Trinity college Dublin 2019, has been recommended for €2.4 Million in funding to create a robot production facility, which will boost its output to an estimated 100 robots per year. The company also aims to add 20 new jobs over the next two years, in areas such as engineering, software development, marketing and biological sciences, to aid with global expansion plans. The company develop and Robots for the healthcare sector – with current Robots – Stevie – a social care robot designed to interact with older people in nursing and retirement communities, and Violet, currently being used in Irish hospitals used to disinfect rooms using ultraviolet light.
€140m road upgrade – A €140 million road upgrade has been completed in Sligo, marking the end of what was none as a ‘nightmare’ stretch where 30 people were killed. The replacement of the old Dublin-Sligo N4, once dubbed one of the most lethal in Ireland by a coroner, is predicted to result in 27 fewer fatalities and almost 1,000 less injuries by 2051. The project also included an off-road greenway is constructed along the eastern parallel road for 2.5km, beginning in Tobberbride and joining the old N4 at Doorly Townland.
Future Planning - A new state-of-the-art manufacturing centre in the National Technology Park in Limerick has received €4m in Budget 2022. The new facility which is being created as part of a multi-million euro investment by IDA Ireland is set to feature facilities to look at the future of manufacturing, plus research and development. The center will be a national facility for multinationals and SMEs to trial, adopt, deploy and scale digital technologies.
Facebook Expansion - Facebook is to create 10,000 jobs across Ireland and Europe as it starts to build a new online virtual ‘metaverse’ where people can work, trade and be entertained. The move will add to the 6,000 people the company already employs in Dublin, Meath and Cork. Facebook says the metaverse will be “a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences using technologies like virtual and augmented reality”.
